At BDA, we offer an array of meticulously crafted classes to cater to every dancer’s aspirations. From the timeless elegance of ballet and the technical precision of pointe work to the expressive freedom of contemporary and the rhythmic artistry of tap, our diverse curriculum ensures that there’s something for everyone. BDA also offers a Soloist Package. Ideal for students committed to honing their craft, this package offers multiple classes at a discounted rate, providing an opportunity to immerse yourself fully in your passion for dance.

Youth Programs
Ages 3 – 5


Petite Ballet – recommended for students ages 3-5
This 45min class will teach children basic motor movement skills, introduce level changes, stretching, and strength building exercises within the framework of ballet terminology.
 
Ballet Foundations – recommended for students ages 3-5
The skills learned in Petite Ballet will continue to be perfected and basic ballet positions will be introduced.  Posture, poise and discipline will be worked on weekly to properly prepare the children to advance into our formal program starting at age 6.

NOTE: Modern, Tap, and Jazz classes are included in our Summer Youth Session.

Elementary Programs
Ages 6 – 9


Elementary Ballet I – recommended for students ages 6-8
Students will work on classical ballet technique at the barre, as well as center and across the floor. Students will continue to learn proper stretching practices, terminology, balance, beginner barre exercises, positioning, and musicality. 
 
Elementary Ballet II – recommended for students ages 7-9
Students will continue to work on classical ballet technique at the barre, center, and across the floor. Students will continue to expand their knowledge of terminology and musicality, while learning more intricate combinations and new, more advanced steps and positioning.

Elementary Modern – recommended for students ages 6-7
Modern Dance retains some ballet technique that expands the style to encompass full-body involvement and creative expression. Students will begin learning the foundations of Modern Dance based on the principles set by the Modern Pioneers.  Students will work on balance, strength, and flexibility through floor-work, center exercises, and across the floor. At the end of the class, they will begin to process modern dance through creative movement

Elementary Tap – recommended for students ages 6-8
Students will begin to work on the fundamental steps and rhythms of classic tap with center and across the floor exercises.  Students will learn coordination, balance, and musicality.  At the end of the class, they will be able to show their growing knowledge through the use of carefully curated dance games and combinations.

Intermediate Programs
Ages 9 – 12


Intermediate A Ballet – recommended for students ages 9-11
Students will continue to work on classical ballet technique at the barre, center, and across the floor. Students will begin more structured work on center exercises such as Adagio and Petite Allegro, as well as turns and leaps.
 
Intermediate B Ballet – recommended for students ages 10-12
Students will continue to work on classical ballet technique at the barre, center, and across the floor. Students will continue practice on center exercises such as Adagio and Petite Allegro, as well as turns, leaps, and Grand Allegro combinations.

Prepointe – recommended for students ages 9-11
Students will work on combinations centered around the foot, ankle, and calf in preparation for Pointe work. Students will focus on strength, flexibility, endurance, awareness, and alignment.

Intermediate Contemporary – recommended for ages 9-12
Contemporary dance is a combination of ballet, modern, and jazz. Students will focus on body awareness, floor work, technique, musicality, and improvisation. Students will be encouraged to develop the freedom of expression and creative exploration of movement. 

Intermediate Modern – recommended for students ages 10 and up
Modern Dance retains some ballet technique that expands the style to encompass full-body involvement and creative expression. Students will continue learning the foundations of Modern Dance based on the principles set by the Modern Pioneers.  Students will work on balance, strength, musicality and flexibility through more challenging floor-work, center exercises, and across the floor. At the end of the class, they will begin an understanding of weight sharing through partner work in contact improvisation.

Intermediate Tap – recommended for students ages 9-11
Students will continue to work on the fundamental steps and rhythms of classic tap with center and across the floor exercises.  Students will begin to combine the fundamental steps into more complicated combinations, such as the “Shirley Temple” and “Time Steps”.  Students will continue to work on coordination, balance, and musicality.  At the end of the class, they will be able to show their growing knowledge through the use of carefully curated dance games and combinations.

Advanced Programs
Ages 11 and Up


Transitional Ballet – recommended for students ages 11 and up
Students will continue to work on classical ballet technique at the barre, center, and across the floor, demonstrating the retention of skills learned in previous levels. Students will continue practice on center and across the floor exercises with more advanced combinations, positioning, and performance quality.

Advanced Ballet – recommended for students ages 13 and up
Students will continue to work on classical ballet technique at the barre, center, and across the floor, demonstrating the retention of skills learned in previous levels. Students will continue practice on center and across the floor exercises with more advanced combinations, positioning, and performance quality.

Pointe – recommended for students ages 11 and up*
Students will work on combinations at the barre and center while in pointe shoes. Students may begin work on classical ballet variations.

*Requirements: students must be at least age 11 and have passed their pointe exam. Students must be taking all offered ballet classes at their level.

Advanced Pointe – recommended for students ages 13 and up*
Students will work on combinations at the barre and center while in pointe shoes. Students may learn more advanced classical variations.

*Requirements: Students must be taking all offered ballet classes at their level. *Advanced students with at least two years of pointe experience do not need to take all ballet technique classes offered. They may take a pointe class, when coupled with one ballet technique class. They must also be taking at least one additional dance class of any genre.

Advanced Contemporary – recommended for ages 12 and up 
Contemporary dance is a combination of ballet, modern, and jazz. Students will work on increasing flexibility, strength and body connectivity. Dancers will focus on floor work, technique, and use of body weight. 

Advanced Modern – recommended for students ages 13 and up
Modern Dance retains some ballet technique that expands the style to encompass full-body involvement and creative expression. Students will be specifically focused on learning the Horton technique. Students will be able to explore new ways of moving in combinations, floor work, and improvisation. Dancers will learn skills of coordination and alignment while building strength and endurance. 

Advanced Tap – recommended for students ages 12 and up
Students will work on the more advanced steps and polyrhythms of classic tap with center and across the floor exercises. Students will continue to work on coordination, balance, and musicality.  They will be able to show their growing knowledge through the use of carefully curated dance games and combinations at the end of each class.

Adult Programs
Ages 18+


Adult Beginner Ballet – for students ages 18+
Students will work on beginner classical ballet technique at the barre, center, and across the floor. Students will gain knowledge of basic ballet terminology, combinations, and use of posture and body positioning.

Adult Ballet – for students ages 18+
Students will work on classical ballet technique at the barre, center, and across the floor. Students will work on center exercises such as Adagio and Petite Allegro, as well as turns and Grand Allegro combinations.

Adult Pre-pointe – for students ages 18+
Students will work on combinations centered around the foot, ankle, and calf in preparation for Pointe work. Students will focus on strength, flexibility, endurance, awareness, and alignment.

Adult Beginner Tap – for students ages 18+
Students will begin to work on the fundamental steps and rhythms of classic tap with center and across the floor exercises. Students will learn coordination, balance, and musicality.  Each class will end with a combination that will summarize the steps learned.

Adult Intermediate Tap – for students ages 18+
Students will continue to work on the fundamental steps and rhythms of classic tap with center and across the floor exercises at a faster pace. Students will continue to work on coordination, balance, and musicality. At the end of the class students will find themselves challenged with a combination that involves more difficult rhythms and quicker footwork.

Adult Jazz – for students ages 18+
Students will work on strength, flexibility, balance, and musicality through a classic Jazz class.  Each class will start with isolations, stretching, balance/turn exercises, and across the floor, and will end with a combination exploring jumps, turns, and sharp movements.

Adult Modern – for students ages 18+
Students will begin or continue learning the foundations of Modern Dance based on the principles set by the Modern Pioneers.  Students will work on balance, strength, musicality, and flexibility through floor-work, center exercises, and across the floor.  Each class will end with a combination that summarizes the exercises set for the day.

Ballet Blast – for students ages 18+
Ballet Blast is an exercise-based class that helps build strength, flexibility, and endurance. No previous dance experience needed. Be prepared to work hard and break a sweat!

Mommy & Me Movement Group

Soloist Package
Ages 6 to Adult


This program offers a strong core curriculum of Ballet Technique, as well as the choice of two or three electives. Through our Soloist Package tuition program, significant financial incentives are in place to enable the dancers to take as many classes as possible. Taking advantage of the Soloist Package gives you a reduced rate versus taking courses a la carte.  Our goal is to encourage and permit students to advance at a pace that matches his/her commitment level and talent through an affordable, intensive, program with high-quality training.

NOTE: Only available for Adult students over the summer
